Published in June 2004, by Imagine Publishing Description: Moonbeams & Myst by Joyce P. Hale. A beautiful book of 110 pages, poems and color graphics by Joyce P. Hale Poems on various subjects... Love, family, country, spirituality, life, humour... Photos in color and graphics all by author. REVIEWS: ~~Reviewed by Julie Donner Andersen, author: Today, as I was feeling like the world was caving in on me, I sat beneath my big maple tree in the backyard with this book and a glass of Chablis. Just as I had expected, since I have been a Joyce Hale fan for years, I was not disappointed regarding how the author’s prose speaks to my heart. The poem, "Make The World Go Away" just took my breath away, as it was so perfect for my mood! Then my pity party dissolved when I came upon "If I Had Known", and I reminded myself to embrace what is GOOD about life instead of dwelling on what is not. "Over The Hill" made me laugh and cheer, as I remembered that true beauty is ageless, timeless, and wise. Ms. Hale has a talent for taking the painful, the beautiful, and the questionable in life, sifting through the ashes, and making sense of it all. Oh, what a pleasure it was to browse through this book! The author’s own photographs are tremendous and capture the essence of each poem perfectly and often time, hauntingly. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for validation or a quick pick-me-up when life’s problems seem insurmountable. Hale, published by Passage Publishing in association with Poetrybox.com, This collection of poems and photos will feed your soul, no matter for what you are seeking. The author writes about faith, grief, humanity, peace within, angels, beauty which God has given to us, hope and more. Black and white photos throughout. REVIEWS: Book Review by Midwest Book Review, Small Press Bookwatch, Poetry Shelf, August 2002 The poetry of Joyce P. Hale as compiled within the pages of Heaven Sent: Soul Food For The Eyes And Heart speak of grief arising from the loss of a loved one, the holding of a lost love in one's heart, the textured fabric of spirituality, and a steadfast belief in a loving divinity of Father and Son. You Are Not Gone: Although I cannot see your face/or hear your voice so clear,/I feel that you are watching,/I sense your presence near./I think of you out of the blue/when sunshine showers me,/Oh no, you've never gone away/from heart and memory./I look for you to come around;/I hear you call my name./You come to mind so vividly/as breezes stir the lane./I know you walk along my side/when I am all alone./They say you crossed the river wide,/but I know you are not gone. ~Reviewer Julie Donner Andersen is the author of “PAST: Perfect! PRESENT: Tense! Insights From One Woman’s Journey As The Wife of a Widower” (Writers Club Press 2003) and the upcoming illustrated humor book “Parentally Insane: Insights From The Edge…of Midlife!” In this collection of poetry, Joyce P. Hale invites the reader into her spirituality with an offering that encourages and often challenges the reader. The majority of poems are Christian in nature, often written as praises or prayers........... Of this small but poignant collection, the author’s best work is reflected in “Legacy” as she notes that love is the greatest legacy of all. The photographs.... are breathtaking and highlight each poem perfectly. However, this reviewer would have liked them better in color instead of black and white. At $15.95 for 37 pages, I found this book at first to be overpriced.... until I read between the covers and discovered a treasure well worth the investment. “Heaven Sent” would make a wonderful gift for anyone you love, especially someone who might be struggling with his or her faith. $13.95 + $3 s/h. Does Heaven Have A Refrigerator? By Joyce P. Hale Illustrated by Stacey Rawlings Click here to Look Inside |
Published in October 2002. Description: Does Heaven Have a Refrigerator? by Joyce P. Hale, A child's view of heaven, told with love and humour by Joyce P. Hale; illustrated beautifully by Stacey Rawlings, in pages a child will love, and some they can color. Complete with gift card. Inspired by the author's own grandchildren. Published by Passage Publishing. REVIEWS: Book Review by Midwest Book Review, Reviewer's Bookwatch, Taylor's Bookshelf, February 2003. Speculating on what a Christian heaven is like from a child's point of view, Does Heaven Have a Refrigerator? is a gentle picturebook deftly written by Joyce P. Hale and enhanced with simple, full-color illustrations by Stacey Rawlings. This original presentation offers a warm, inviting, appealing, entertaining, and recommended introduction for young readers from Christian families to the concept of a benevolent afterlife. "I guess God hugs us and kisses us too, / and tucks us in like Mom and Dad do. /Well, maybe I'll visit there sometime later... / Does Heaven have a refrigerator?" ~Julie Donner Andersen, author: As a writer, my genres encompass fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Therefore, I defer all children’s book critiques to the expert – my 3.5-year-old daughter. After careful scrutiny, author Joyce P. Hale’s whimsical and sweet “Does Heaven Have A Refrigerator?” earned an exuberant “two thumbs up!” from my resident reviewer. She’s picky, too. Not all books will pass muster or escape her keen eye for colourful illustrations and text that will peak her curiosity. This book did not disappoint. Joyce P. Hale accurately delves into the mind of a child and offers a refreshingly innocent yet serious (from a child’s point of view) pondering of the afterlife, its abode, and its Gatekeeper – God. After reading it together with my child, the book opened up a wonderful window of opportunity to discuss our family’s beliefs. For me, this was the very best reason to recommend Ms. Hale’s book. For others, it might be the outstanding full-page illustrations by Stacey Rawlings. Perhaps others might simply find the book an amusing romp through yesteryear as they recall the awesome wonder of a first encounter with God. Either way, Ms. Hale has penned a book that will appeal to children and parents alike, whatever their religious denomination. Just ask my daughter. $15.95 + $3 S/H. (Lower 48 U.S. only.
